The Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), has agreed to an Egyptian-brokered ceasefire with Israel to end the worst violence between the two sides in years.

Iran PressMiddle EastHamas-led factions on Tuesday accepted the ceasefire to go back to the situation that prevailed up until this latest military escalation.

According to Al Jazeera, the Israelis do not confirm or deny such things, but Israeli media claimed, citing an unnamed official, that Palestinian factions tried through four separate mediators to request a ceasefire.

A statement by the Islamic resistance groups in Gaza said: "Through Egyptian efforts a ceasefire has been arranged between the resistance and the Zionist enemy."

On 13 August, a member of the Palestinian Hamas Movement, Hesam Badran called the Zionist regime's threats to assassinate Hamas commanders ridiculous.

The latest escalation erupted on 13 November, when the Israeli military bombed the studios of the Hamas-run Al-Aqsa television station.
