Iranian foreign minister's senior advisor, Hossein Jaberi Ansari, says Iran has been in talks with the European Union over Yemen for a number of months.

Jaberi Ansari made the remark to reporters after a meeting with Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri on Monday.

He arrived in Beirut to submit President Rouhani’s message to his Lebanese counterpart Michel Aoun.  Jaberi Ansari said that one of the topics of discussion during meetings with the Lebanese officials was latest developments in Yemen as well as the efforts to settle regional crises, including the crises in Syria  and Yemen.

The senior diplomat said he was in charge of dossiers of Yemen and Syria in Iran’s Foreign Ministry. Pointing to intensive efforts to solve the crisis in Yemen, Jaberi Ansari said Iran is currently engaged in intensive dialogues with the four European states and EU to pave the way for solving the Syrian crisis and start of political talks.

Reiterating that Yemeni crisis has no military solution, he hoped that the option of war would be set aside.

As to Syrian developments, he said the major steps taken under Astana Agreement is to set up a committee to write a new constitution for the country.

Efforts are underway to help repatriate Syrian refugees, he said. Ansari also said that message he conveyed to Lebanese officials during the meetings contains two major points.

First was Iran’s efforts to save the JCPOA through dialogue with partners and maintain Iran’s political and economic benefits under the deal while the second was the Iranian nation’s friendship and cooperation with Lebanon and other countries.“Region belongs to all regional nations and cooperation and positive interaction among the governments and nations is the only way for securing common interests,” he said.
