Iran Press/Iran news: Director General of Ports and Maritime Affairs of Hormozgan province (south of Iran) Allah-Morad Afifi-pour said on Thursday that 44 foreign mariners were rescued in coordination with the Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Centre of Shahid Rajaee Port, on the incident of two foreign tankers crossing the Oman Sea, Iran Press reported.
Afifipour added that the Marshall Islands-flagged tanker ship named 'FRONT ALTAIR', was heading to Taiwan from the origin of Al Ruwais port in Qatar.
Carrying ethanol cargo, the tanker caught fire, 25 miles from the Jask port on the international route ships at 8:05 on Thursday morning.
"With the fast action of the Marine Corps Search and Rescue Coordination Center (Mrcc) of Hormozgan, based in Shahid Rajaee Port, 23 fatal tanker personnel were rescued by a float called Hyundai Dubai and transfered to the Iranian Island of Jask," He added.
The second Panama-flagged tanker 'Kokuka Corageous', moving Methanol from Saudi Arabian port of Al-Jubail to Singapore, caught fire at 9:50, 30 miles from Jask," He noticed.
"Coordinated by Mrcc Hormozgan using an external truck named COSTAL ACE, 21 crew "members rescued," Director General of Ports and Maritime Affairs of Hormozgan province announced.
Shipping sources said on Thursday that the two tankers are evacuated in the sea of Oman and the crew of both ships are safe.
