Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei on Wednesday morning paid tribute to the late founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini, ahead of the beginning of Ten-Day Fajr (Dawn) ceremonies, marking the victory of 1979 Islamic Revolution.

Iran Press/Iran news: Ayatollah Khamenei visited the mausoleum of the late Imam Khomeini, south of Tehran,  on the eve of the anniversary of the Imam’s return to Iran from forced exile by the country’s ousted monarchical Pahlavi regime in Paris in 1979.

The Leader also paid homage to Iranian martyrs laid to rest in Behesht-e Zahra Cemetery in south Tehran, Iran Press reported.

Also on Wednesday, President Hassan Rouhani and his cabinet ministers similarly attended the mausoleum and the cemetery.

Iranians hold ten-day-long celebrations every year, starting with the anniversary of Imam Khomeini’s return on 1st February and culminating in the anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution, on 11th February.

The Iranian nation toppled the US-backed Pahlavi regime 40 years ago, on 11 February 1979, ending the 2,500 years of monarchy in the country.

The Revolution, led by the late Imam Khomeini (may his soul rest in peace), established a new political system based on Islamic values and popular religious democracy. 101 /211/104
