Iran news: According to the Seismological Center of the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University, the tremor occurred at 02:27 hours local time (10:57 GMT on Thursday night) in the early hours of Friday morning at the depth of 13 km underground.
The epicenter of the quake was located at 34.46 degrees latitude and 45.66 degrees longitude, Iran Press reported.
No report has so far been released on the likely casualties or damage to property.
Iran sits on major fault lines and is prone to near-daily earthquakes.
On November 12, 2017, a fatal earthquake with a magnitude of 7.3 hit the provincial town of Salas Babajani killing 620 people and injuring about 12,000 others. 103 /211
