Iranian President stressed the need for development of relations with Turkey as a friendly country.

Iran Press/Iran news: Speaking at Mehrabad Airport on Wednesday before leaving for Turkey, President Hassan Rouhani said, this visit is taking place at the official invitation of the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdo?an to attend the 5th Supreme Council of Iran and Turkey.

Pointing out that United States is not able to dictate to us from thousands of kilometres away, president Rouhani praised the stances taken by the Turkish government, as a friendly and effective country in the region, Iran Press reported.

He reiterated the stances of Turkish government and Erdo?an in recent months against the US sanctions plots against the Islamic Republic of Iran have been very good and firm.

"Naturally, apart from the council meeting with presidents of both countries attending, I will have a bilateral meeting with Recep Tayyip Erdo?an and Iranian ministers will have meetings with their Turkish counterparts," he added.

He continued, most of our neighbors, including Turkey, have explicitly stated that the time when United States dictated its policies to other countries is well and truly over, and America is no longer able to dictate to this region from thousands of kilometres away.

The President referred to the meeting of business people of the two countries and added, “Economic cooperation between the two countries is currently around $10 billion, which is not enough and we have stressed in the past 2, 3 years that trade between tehran and Ankara should increased to at least $ 30 billion.”

“Removing obstacles in bilateral relations, customs, industries and other fields will also be negotiated and resolved,” he added.

In a meeting with Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Binali Y?ld?r?m on December 8 in Tehran, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani appreciated Turkey for standing against US sanctions and said: "The Islamic Republic of Iran is determined to deepen ties with Turkey in all fields of mutual interest."

“Turkey will continue its relations with Iran in any conditions and the US sanctions against Iran is not fruitful,” Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey Binali Y?ld?r?m said in the meeting with Iranian President, Hassan Rouhani on the sidelines of the 'Second Conference of Parliament Speakers'.

US President Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew Washington from the nuclear agreement in May and reintroduced sanctions on Iran in August.

The US withdrawal from JCPOA and reimposing sanctions was met with worldwide criticism, particularly by Turkey as Iran's neighbor. 101/ 211 / 202
