Iran's Basij Commander Brigadier General Gholam-Hossein Gheibparvar, has emphasised that the Basij volunteers are fully prepared to cooperate with the government, using all their skills and resources, adding that the Basij (volunteer) organisation has already carried out very significant economic projects within the country.

Iran news:  Speaking on Sunday 18 November at a special press conference in Tehran marking the start of the Basij volunteer week, General Gheibparvar said three special working groups have been set up this week, which is the national week of Basij volunteers.

He added: "The first working group will deal with international festival of resistance films and resistance cinema. The second working group will ensure a constant Basij (volunteer) presence on the internet and cyberspace, and the third working group will convene an international conference this week on 'Sympathizing with the Yemeni people'. International guests and activists will attend this conference."

The national week of Basij volunteers starts on Tuesday 20 November, and will end on Monday 26 November .    

In an exclusive interview with Iran Press on Sunday, General Gheibparvar was asked what economic activities and projects the Basij had undertaken, given the fact that a fully-fledged economic war was being waged against the country.  He replied: "Basij is the strong arm of the government. Basij volunteers serve the people with all their skills and capabilities, providing a fast and efficient service. The Basij organisation has carried out many industrial and economic projects over the years, and we shall continue this in the future."  211/103
