At least four people have died after floods streamed across the northern regions of Iran on Friday night. Mazandaran province bore the brunt of the floods.

Iran PressIran news: According to Mazandaran medical emergency center, one person was killed by lightning strike in Sari, the provincial capital, and a  taxi driver died in Chaloos after being caught in a deluge and drowned in the huge volume of water.  Two other people also died in the floods in Mazandaran.

Over the past 12 hours, the northern provinces of Mazandaran and Gilan have been hit by heavy torrential rain, and a bit further north, in the northwestern Ardabil province it has been snowing, the first snowfall this year.

Authorities say heavy torrential rain  caused flooding in the residential areas in different parts of Mazandaran province, and some houses were damaged in the cities of Amol and Babol. Meanwhile, other reports indicate electricity pylons have bee damaged by flooding in central and eastern regions of Mazandaran province, resulting in power outages.

Cellphone communication networks were also interrupted in some parts of Ramsar in northern Iran and telephone lines are disconnected in most parts of the city of Ramsar.

It has been raining across most regions of northern Iran, including the capital Tehran, since Friday 5 October.
