The former Iranian foreign minister, and head of Iran’s Strategic Council for Foreign Policy, Kamal Kharrazi has stressed that the purpose of US pressures is to change the system of government of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Iran Press/ Iran: Kamal Kharrazi speaking at 'Current Iranian Foreign Policy' conference held by the Ministry of International Affairs of the Chinese Communist Party at the Beijing International Studies University on Monday, stressed that the goal of US pressure is to change the system of government in Islamic Iran.  Kharrazi added: "As long as there is no change in the goals of United States and Washington continues to threaten and endanger the Iranian people and government, Tehran will not enter into any negotiations with Washington, and will continue to resist".

Iran’s Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, in a meeting with president Rouhani and his cabinet on 29, Aug 2018, affirmed that there would be no chance of negotiations with the United States, criticizing Trump for his explicit animosity towards Iran—as one reason Iran won’t consider negotiating with the United States.

"We are confident that we will succeed in resisting these threats with the resistance of the Iranian people, as well as the help of our friends," Kharrazi said.

Kharazi reiterated that the United States regards some countries, such as Iran, China, Russia, and even some of its nominal European allies, as a threat to its global power, therefore in their view, political and military activities and the regional influence of other countries should not prevent US hegemony in the world;

Our policy is to work as closely as possible with other countries, especially Russia, China, India and Europe against this American policy.

Iran Nuclear Deal: Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA)

Regarding Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and the agreement reached with the 5+1 Group , as an important issue in Iran's foreign policy, Kharrazi said that JCPOA affect the social, political and economic life of our country.

Kharrazi emphasized that, IAEA has verified Iran's commitment to JCPOA several times, although the Western side did not properly fulfill its obligations, and therefore JCPOA did not have a significant impact on the Iranian economy.

He argued that the United States has not only withdrawn from the agreement, but also by adopting and imposing secondary sanctions and imposing deadlines, is trying to force other countries to join the U.S. in exerting more pressure on Iran.

Iran is independent in its foreign policy

The head of Iran’s Strategic Council for Foreign Policy said 40 years ago, the Iranian political system changed with the will of the majority of the people, and our country adopted an independent foreign policy which was defined and emphasized in the constitution of the Islamic Republic. Kharrazi added: "Iran has incurred heavy costs, including war and economic sanctions, for maintaining its independent foreign policy.

He emphasized that the Islamic Republic's policy vis-a-vis the Arab revolutions is to respect the will of the peoples of those countries in which the revolution took place and to oppose the intervention of other countries, especially the great powers in their internal affairs; that’s why Iran, along with the peoples of Tunisia, Egypt, Yemen and Bahrain, disagreed with intervention of the United States and some European and regional countries in the collapse of Gaddafi's regime in Libya, and against the interference of  wealthy Arabs countries in Syria.

Referring to Iran's presence in Syria, Kharrazi argued that the Syrian crisis was already designed by foreign countries so that within a short period of time, a variety of terrorist groups, with financial and military support from those countries, aiming at the elimination of the Syrian regime, and Western and especially the American authorities announced from the very beginning of the crisis that they were pursuing the siege of the Syrian regime with the aim of hitting Iran, and it was also in practice that terrorist groups deployed near our western borders.

Kharrazi added that the Syrian government asked Iran to fight the terrorist groups and ensure the stability and security of Syria, and Iran has helped the Syrian government to maintain the status quo and stabilize the region; In Iraq, Iran also rushed to the aid of the Iraqi government and its people and prevented ISIS to enter Baghdad.
