The Deputy Minister for Cooperatives, Labour and Social Welfare, Seyyed Hamid Kalantari, says women should act as ambassadors for the cooperative sector. He added: "More than one million women are currently members of cooperatives".

Iran Press / Iran news: The Deputy Minister of Cooperatives, Labour and Social Welfare, Kalantari, said there are currently more than 10000 active womens' cooperatives in Iran, with over a million members.

Speaking in the "empowerment and development of  women's employment" meeting held today(Sunday), Kalantari said women play an important role in developing the country's economy and exports, and their potential capacities must be properly utilized.

Referring to the leadership role of women in the family, he said: " In fact,  women, not only have a supportive and educational roll at home, but also can showcase their capacities in the social and economic sectors. Unfortunately, women's academic disciplines do not meet their employment needs, while women who have been trained, have been able to perform better in the job market, Kalantari said.

 He added:  "Women could help earn extra income for their families through activities such as publishing, printing , computers and graphics, packaging and herbal medicines.

The minister of labour affairs at the same time called for the formation of a women's association  and said, by forming into groups, women can expand their economic activities, present their achievements and present their products.

The deputy minister said women in the field of exports specially non-oil exports ,handicrafts and carpets have many potentialities that, if become organized with  a brand for themselves, will have an impact on both the country's job creation and the empowerment of women.
