Iranian Karate practitioners received 2 silver and one bronze medals of 2018 Asian Games’ Karate event, in Indonesia.

Iran Press/Iran News - In the final contest of Men’s -60kg category held at JCC Plenary Hall, Amir Mahdizadeh was defeated by Indonesia’s Rifki Ardiansyah Arrosyiid 7-9 and gained another silver medal for Iran.

Two bronze medals of this category went to the Uzbek practitioner and Malaysia’s Prem Kumar Selvam, Mehr News Agency reported.

Meanwhile, In the final match of Women’s -55kg category held at JCC Plenary Hall, the Iranian athlete was defeated by world champion Tzuyun Wen 0-4 and received the silver medal. Representatives from Indonesia and Macau collected the bronze medals of this category.

Taravat Khaksar overpowered Afghanistan’s Latifa Haidare 9-0 in the first step. Then, she overpowered Indonesia’s Cokorda Istri Agung and advanced to the semifinal. Proving her quality, Khaksar defeated China’s Jiamei Ding 5-1 to win the ticket to the final bout.

Iran's female athlete Hamideh Abbasali also representing Iran in +68 kilogram weight category became third in her class and received bronze medal.

Iranian karate athlete have so far gained one gold in 2018 Asian Games. Sajjad Ganjzadeh representing Iran in +84 kilogram weight category in the Asian Games in Indonesia defeated Vietnam's Pung Min in final and received Iran's first Gold medal in karate.

Collecting 14 gold, 13 silver and 10 bronze medals, Iran is currently ranked 4th in the medals table after China, Japan and South Korea. Indonesia and North Korea with 12 and 11 gold medals are just behind Iran in the ranking.

2018 Asian Games started on August 18 in Indonesian cities of Jakarta and Palembang and will wrap up on September 2.
