Renowned Iranian stage and screen actor, Ezzatollah Entezami, passed away on Friday morning at the age of 94.

Iran Press- Entezami was born in Tehran on June 21, 1924.

He graduated from a theatre and cinema school in Hanover, Germany in 1958. Entezami started his career on stage in 1941.

He had been acting in movies since 1969. His debut performance in Darius Mehrjui’s film, The Cow, received the Silver Hugo in Chicago International Film Festival in 1971.

He shined in the role of a naive villager who cannot endure the death of his beloved cow and starts to believe that he is the cow himself.He was known as one of the most prominent actors in Iranian cinema and had been labeled as the greatest actor in the history of cinema of Iran.  His "Hezar Dastaan" television series was also very memorable, and one of his best works.

Entezami was known as one of the most prominent actors in Iranian cinema and had been labelled as the greatest actor in history of Iranian cinema. He worked with the best and most  prominent film directors, such as Dariush Mehrjui (eight films), Ali Hatami (four films), Nasser Taqvaee, Mohsen Makhmalbaf, Behrouz Afkhami and Rakhshan Bani-Etemad. He was awarded the Crystal Simorgh for the Best Actor twice in the International Fajr Film Festival, for Grand Cinema and The Day of Angel. His work and accomplishments were recognized in October 2006 at the Iran cultural center in Paris.

 

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani together with  Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Ghasemi have expressed their heartfelt condolences over the passing away of veteran Iranian actor Ezatollah Entezami.

In separate messages on Friday, noting that the demise of the popular artist Ezatollah Entezami caused deep sorrow,  Rouhani, Zarif and Ghasemi offered their condolences over the great loss to the family of the deceased, art community as well as the Iranian nation.

They also asked God to bestow His divine mercy to the venerable artist who committed his lifetime to the real of arts.
