The head of ECO's cultural institute, Mohammad Mehdi Mazaheri, has emphasized that his institute is very keen to cooperate on cultural and artistic matters with ECO member states, putting forward the idea of a joint cinematic production by ECO member states.

According to an Iran Press report, speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Mohammad Mehdi Mazaheri, stressed the importance of diplomacy and how it can be used to promote peace globally.

Turning to the raison d'etre of  ECO cultural institute, and its responsibilities  in the fields of culture and art,  Mazaheri said we have currently embarked on several important initiatives, and one of them is to set up "The Union of Reporters / Journalists of  ECO countries".  Mazaheri said the ministry of culture and Islamic guidance is helping us in this respect.  He also pointed to the signing of a recent memorandum of understanding between Iran's ministry of culture and Islamic guidance and the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO ), setting out a roadmap for cooperation and joint activities.

The head of ECO's cultural institute went on to stress that more effort has been made to inform the general public about ECO's activities, and in particular the activities of the ECO cultural institute. Mazaheri added:  "We have contacted the embassies of ECO member states in Tehran informing them that with their cooperation a range of publications and magazines explaining the activities  of ECO, and a multi-lingual ECO website, in all the different languages of member states, can be produced, to raise the profile of ECO within the region as well as internationally.  Currently, ECO's website has been designed using two languages:  English and Persian."

Commenting on joint cinematic productions by ECO member states, Mazaheri said:  "Some time ago in the holy city of Mashhad, an agreement was signed between ECO cultural institute and The Farabi Cinematic Foundation, paving the way for a joint film-making project and a joint cinematic production by ECO member states , particularly Afghanistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.  The city of Mashhad was chosen because of its geographic proximity to the three countries. We hope the agreement becomes operational very soon".
