According to an Iran Press report, speaking on Tuesday morning at an academic conference: "Faithful Revolutionary Women", Ali Akbar Velayati added: "In order to correct society, learned individuals with academic backgrounds need to step forward and lead the way. They need to be active in solving all manner of problems faced by society. Today, Iran is ranked fourth in the world, in terms of the ratio of the number of students studying higher education degrees, to the total population of the country. Few graduates go on to study postgraduate degrees in many countries, including in the United States. America, in fact, absorbs the "cream of the crop" of top graduates of other countries.
Velayati pointedly added: "After the second world war, the United States seems to have got into the habit of robbing the wealth and natural resources of other countries by the use of military force, and as far as science and technology is concerned, we see this same phenomena albeit in a different form".
Turning to US president, Donald Trump, Velayati stated: "The American president has openly declared that the main objective of his recent trip to Saudi Arabia was to cash-in on the huge wealth of the Saudi royal family, by selling them expensive American weaponry, in exchange for billions of dollars of Saudi money.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Velayati said universities have a duty to train top students , who are the future of this country. He added: "The Leader of the Islamic revolution has clearly stated his expectations of universities in training and educating talented students, and those universities which are able to absorb larger numbers of gifted students, bear a heavier responsibility in this regard".
