Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has strongly criticised unilateralism in a letter on the occasion of France's national day, known as Bastille Day.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani sent a congratulatory message to French President Emmanuel Macron, on the occasion of Bastille Day, the national day of France (14 July ). In his message, president Rouhani hoped that the two countries witness further development of their historic relations, at various bilateral, regional and international levels, and also in confronting unilateralism practiced by some countries.

France's President Emmanuel Macron shakes hands with his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani at the United Nations in September.

Iranian President also expressed hope that the two countries witness stronger multilateralism through collaboration and taking advantage of  existing potentials, as well as common viewpoints.

"I hope that we witness further development of historic relations between the two countries in different bilateral, regional and international fields and also in confronting unilateralism practiced by some countries and fostering multilateralism through collaboration and taking advantage of the existing potentials, as well as common viewpoints", Iranian President said in the letter.

"I offer my sincerest congratulations to Your Excellency and the people of the French Republic on July 14, the National Day of the country. I wish Your Excellency health and success and the people of the French Republic's felicity and prosperity", Rouhani concluded.

French President Emmanuel Macron and Iranian President Hassan Rohani have agreed to work together to preserve the 2015 Iran nuclear agreement  despite US unilateral withdrawal from  Iran nuclear deal.

During a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron, Rouhani said Tehran attaches great importance to the European role in protecting the 2015 nuclear deal formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.

US decision to withdraw from the deal that provides Tehran relief from sanctions in return for curbs on Iran's nuclear program and to impose “the highest level of economic sanctions” on Iran, violating an international nuclear agreement and a UN resolution, breaking decisively with US allies in Europe.
