Rouhani: Trump’s withdrawal from JCPOA was “America’s worst and last option”
President Rouhani said Tue. that Donald Trump’s withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal was “America’s worst and last option” as the move came with the highest prices for the US.
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani delivered a lengthy speech at a national judiciary congress on Tuesday in Tehran, discussing the US pullout from the Iran nuclear deal dubbed JCPOA and its consequences.
The resolution 2231 lifted UN sanctions against Iran, which ruined the US plan and prompted the country to attempt to make its unilateral, domestic sanctions aginst Iran into extra-territorial ones, Rouhani said at the congress.
He went on to add, “we reclaimed our share in the global oil market; such instances of success did not sit well with the Zionists and the US.”
“The first attempt by the new US administration was to force Iran to abandon the JCPOA so that our nuclear case would once again become a security matter,” Rouhani said. “Then, they tried to pressure the IAEA to publish reports against Iran, but our authorities foiled their plot through their resistance and vigilance.”
“The US third attempt was to persuade the European sides to quit the JCPOA, but they failed this time, too, and Washington pulled out from the agreement while paying the highest price,” Rouhani said.
“Trump’s big dream was to see our immediate withdrawal from the JCPOA as soon as US pullout,” Rouhani noted.
“The Americans thought that the moment they pulled out of the JCPOA, we would also withdraw the next day, so that they could take our case to the UN Security Council again, and rally all countries to re-impose sanctions on Iran,” said Rouhani.
Stating that "Lift of sanctions were approved based on UNSC Resolution 2231," the President added: "US failed and is after making its unilateral sanctions against Iran a cross-border issue".
He continued: "We took back our right in the global oil market and these successes have not made US and Zionists happy".
Rouhani also said: "The first attempt of the new US government was to make Iran exit the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) to be able to reclaim security issues regarding our nuclear case".
"They put International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) under pressure for reporting against Iran but our authorities foiled this plot with wisdom and resistance," he continued.
The President of the Islamic Republic of Iran also went on to say: "Plan C of the Americans was to make Europe withdraw from the deal but they were unsuccessful in this too".
"The United States withdrew from its commitments under the JCPOA with the highest price possible," he said, stating that "The great wish of Trump was that we would exit the deal after him".
He also said: "Our athletic successes show that our nation does not abandon its pride and national interests".
President Rouhani continued: "A judge must decide independently deciding between himself, God, the law and conscience," adding that "Independence of judgement and the judge is the greatest honour of this system".
