On the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, the Leader of the Islamic revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, has either pardoned or commuted the sentences of 537 of those who had been convicted in various courts of law of the Islamic Republic.

According to an Iran Press report, the head of Iran's judiciary, Ayatollah Sadegh Amoli Larijani, had earlier, in a letter, asked  the Leader for clemency with regards to those who had been found eligible by the judiciary's parole board.

The leader agreed to pardoning and commutation of sentences of   537 individuals who had been recommended by the parole board. 

In most Islamic countries, tomorrow, Friday, the first day of the month of  Shawwal on the Islamic lunar calendar , has been declared as the Eid-ul-Fitr.

The Eid-ul-Fitr is a major Islamic festivity marking the end of the blessed holy month of Ramadhan.
