Holy month of Ramadan starts in Iran and several Muslim countries on Thursday, including in Egypt, Oman, Yemen, Iraq, Pakistan, Kuwait, UAE, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar that is observed by the Muslims worldwide.

While fasting from dawn until sunset, Muslims abstain from eating and drinking.

Moon sighting is carried in Iran by the Office of Supreme Leader prior to the fasting month to declare the beginning of the holy month.

The month lasts 29 or 30 days based on the visual sightings of the crescent moon. Eid Fitr marks the end of the fasting month of Ramadan.
