Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak met Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Zanganeh in Moscow on Monday and discussed energy cooperation between the two countries and through OPEC, Russia’s Energy Ministry said in a statement.

Russian Energy Minister and Iranian Oil Minister also discussed about the possibility of Russian oil companies taking part in projects in Iran, Russia’s Energy Ministry noted.

They also touched upon cooperation in multilateral formats, in particular, through the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), it said.

"Regular contacts at the highest level create favorable conditions for strengthening bilateral cooperation both at the interagency level and at the corporate level," Russian Energy Minister said.

In March, Russia and Iran signed a string of cooperation agreements in various fields including the energy sector.

The two sides paid particular attention to bilateral projects in the nuclear power industry and agreed to continue coordinated efforts to stabilize international markets.
