President Hassan Rouhani attended a joint press conference with Chancellor of Austria Sebastian Kurz on Wednesday and said: “Today, we had very fruitful negotiations and we discussed different bilateral and regional issues, as well as the nuclear deal”.

He added: “Tehran and Vienna are determined to develop their business, economic, scientific, cultural and tourist relations and also decide on cooperation in  finance and banking”.

He also expressed hope that the two countries can maintain the process of their business relations in 2018 like the trend in 2017 and said: “Achieving this goal depends on attempts that the governments of Iran and Austria make and I hope these attempts can  be successful”.

“I hope that relations between private sectors of the two countries further develop,” said Rouhani, adding: “Iran and Austria have close views on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA)”.

“JCPOA is a successful  achievement for all countries around the world, which of course was achieved after a long period of negotiations. Today, we told the Austrian side clearly that Iran staying in the deal continues until it can benefit its interests,” said Rouhani stating that “the Iranian nation chooses its path based on its interests” .

Dr Rouhani added: “Today, we had discussions on various regional issues, including Yemen. Currently, Iran is negotiating the situation in Yemen with 4 European countries and wants to free the Yemenis from the pressure they are under”.

The President of the Islamic Republic of Iran also said: “Freedom from this pressure is that helping Saudi Arabia must  be stopped so that they understand that they have no way ahead of them except peace and that the Yemeni issues has got no military solution and it must be resolved through Yemeni-Yemeni political dialogue”.

On Syria, he said: “Today, Astana dialogues are underway with Iran, Russia and Turkey taking part. The main goal of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Syria is to strike ISIS hard and we succeeded in defeating ISIS in the first step despite extensive support of the Zionist Regime and the US and we will stand by the Syrian people in their fight against other terrorist groups until the final victory”.

Some European countries feel a historic debt to the Jewish, but on the other hand, it is the Jewish who owe Iranians, added Rouhani, saying: “Iranians saved the Jewish in Babel and they are always indebted to Iranians because of this and we have always had –and continue to have- very good, close relations with the Jewish throughout the history”.

“As an occupier and oppressor group, Zionists bombard the residents of Gaza and interfere in Syria’s internal affairs. They support ISIS terrorist group and treat their injured warriors inside the Occupied Territories, and in general, they have a very destructive role in the region,” continued the President.

Dr Rouhani also said: “The ultimate goal of Iran and Austria is establishment of peace and security in the sensitive region of Middle East and providing humanitarian aid to peoples who are affected by insecurity. I hope relations between the two countries further develop to serve mutual interests”.

At the same press conference, Chancellor of Austria Sebastian Kurz described relations between the two countries developing and said: “Since 160 years ago, Iran and Austria have had political, economic and cultural relations and today, they share views about development of these relations”.

Austria is an impartial country and the host for international dialogue, he said, adding: “I am very happy that Austria could host Iran’s nuclear negotiations. Austria and EU are still committed to the nuclear deal”.

“People’s situation in Syria is deeply worrying and we hope that all countries of the region and world powers play their role in resolving the Syrian crisis and ending people’s suffering,” continued Kurz.
