Speaking at the meeting of high-ranking delegations of Iran and Austria on Wednesday, President Hassan Rouhani said: "Iran and Austria have good positions in West Asia and the European Union and can take advantage of their positions to further develop regional and international cooperation".
The Islamic Republic of Iran is determined to cement relations and cooperation with Austria in all fields, he said, adding: "Development of relations between the two nations is the best and safest capital for maintaining, deepening and promoting relations between the two countries".
He also referred to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) as an important international and multilateral agreement and said: "The Iranian nation resists against unlawful actions of the United States and won't allow their policies to affect Tehran's relations with the world".
Stating that today, the EU is expected to condemn US administration's unilateralism more explicitly, Dr Rouhani said: "A country's president's extraterritorial tendencies is not acceptable in today's world and all countries must stand up to these actions to protect their independence and identity".
Referring to Iran's effective measures in the fight against terrorism, especially ISIS in Iraq and Syria at their legal governments' request, the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran said: "Terrorism is a great threat for the region and the world and Iran's move in the fight against terrorism is stability-building, security-building and beneficial for the region and the world".
He also went on to point out the critical situation in Yemen and Syria and the need for immediate relief as the most important human rights action in the world, emphasising the importance of cooperation in the world to deliver food and medicine aid to these countries.
At the same meeting, President of Austria Alexander Van der Bellen described relations between the two countries as positive and said: "There are ample potentials and capabilities for development of Tehran-Vienna relations that must be taken the best advantage of".
"Austria is determined to promote its relations and cooperation with Iran under any circumstances," he said, adding: "The United States' extraterritorial and secondary sanctions are against international laws and violate human rights, and Austrian companies do not favour this".
