An explosion happened in the capital of Iraq on Thursday morning

Iran PressIran News: A blast was heard in Baghdad late on Wednesday coming from the fortified Green Zone, which houses government buildings and foreign embassies in the Iraqi capital.

The cause of the explosion was not immediately clear, witnesses told Reuters.

An Iraqi soldier stationed in the Green Zone confirmed the sound of explosion originated from the zone, but gave no other details.

This is while, A suspicious protest in which some unknown social media activists and groups had been inviting the people to take part for days, was held in Baghdad and dozens were injured in the protest.

The last attack on the Green Zone was on September 24, when two rockets landed near the US embassy in the compound.

The rockets were found to have been fired from an area in southern Baghdad where Iraqi paramilitary forces close to Iran hold sway. 207/204
