Iran-Iraq border commanders meet in Baghdad

The Iranian Deputy Commander of the Border Police announced that the eighth round of the meeting between Iran-Iraq Border Commanders held in Baghdad, Iraq.

Iran PressIran news: "The eighth round of meeting between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Iraq border commanders commenced on Monday in Baghdad with the aim of the two countries' border guards further coordination," said the deputy of the border commander of Iran police Abolghasem Khatami.

"During the four-day meeting, border guards commander of Iran Brigadier General Qasem Rezaei and Iraqi border commander Lieutenant General Hamed Abdullah Ibrahim Al-Husseini will discuss coordination for organizing the 'Arbaeen Hosseini ceremony' - the 40th day after martyrdom of Imam Hussein (PBUH) - and the traffic of pilgrims as well as preparing appropriate law and order to improve the security of shared borders in the best possible ways," Khatami added. 

20th Saffar 1441 on the Islamic lunar calendar, corresponding to 30th October 2018, is the 'day of Arbaeen', marking 40 days after the martyrdom anniversary of the third Shi'a Imam, Imam Hossein (PBUH) in the battle of Karbala in 680 AD.

According to official Iraqi sources, around 14 million pilgrims took part in the 'Great Arbaeen March' last year.
