Iran Press/Iran News: Mahmoud Vaezi in his briefing on the sideline of the government weekly session said Iran understands Turkey's security concerns in its common borders with Syria.
Referring to Turkey's operation in Syria, Vaezi said, "Our position is clear. On the one hand, we understand Turkey's security concerns and the forces that threaten its border, and we believe that situations should change so that Turkey does not have these concerns. On the other hand, we believe that the territorial integrity of Syria should be preserved and it should not be divided," Iran Press reported.
"It seems that what was agreed yesterday is that the war in Syria will no longer continue and that we will welcome it and the statements by two sides about Syria's territorial integrity," he said referring to recent Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an's agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
"They also emphasized Iran's role in maintaining a cease-fire in Syria and that is a good move," Chief of Staff of Presidential office underscored.
"We have very good relations with Turkey and with Syria and we have to play a role not to ignite conflicts but to play a mediating role," Vaezi added.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, unveiled a 10-point memorandum of understanding following lengthy talks in Sochi on the situation in northern Syria.
The deal, which put Turkey’s offensive on hold, requires the withdrawal of Kurdish militants of the so-called People’s Protection Units (YPG) 30 kilometers away from the Turkish border. 101/216
