Iran Press/Iran News: The mourners take to the streets of the northwestern city of Mashhad the capital city of Khorasan Razavi Province then entered the holy shrine of Imam Reza (PBUH) the eighth Shia Imam and participated in the Arbaeen rites.
About 8.7 million pilgrims are expected to arrive in Mashhad, the capital of Khorasan Razavi province, northeast of Iran, in the final decade of the current lunar month (19-29 October).
Today millions of Hosseini Mourners on the day of Arbaeen from North to South and West to the East of Iran take to streets to mark Arbaeen.
In Tehran, Hosseini mourners on the day of Arbaeen marched from Imam Hossein SQ toward the mausoleum of Hazrat Abdul Azim Hassani (PBUH) south of the city to mark Arbaeen.
The Arbaeen is one of the largest religious gatherings in the world, marking the 40th day after the martyrdom of Imam Hussein in the seventh century.
Each year, a huge crowd of Shias march toward Karbala, where the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (PBUH) is located, to perform mourning rites marking Arbaeen.
Over 20 million pilgrims from around the world, including a record number of Iranians, have entered the holy Iraqi city of Karbala for observing Arbaeen rites.
A total of 3.5 million Iranians had entered Iraq to take part in the ceremony, 1.2 million more than the number reported last year and topping previous participation records.101/205
