Iranian Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli

Iran's Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli has stressed that security is one of the most important issues in Iran today and security is essentially linked to economics -- its centre of gravity is economics -- and thus we need a strong robust economy to render sanctions ineffective.

Iran Press/Iran News: Speaking at Resistance Economy headquarters in the city of Shiraz in Fars province on Thursday night, Rahmani Fazli added that today the enemy is threatening the country economically and it will not hesitate to act against our economy, and if they do not do act, it is because they are unable to.

He added: "Our internal and external security is inextricably linked to economics, and we must be able to sort out the economic problems which ordinary people face. It is very important that we solve our economic problems."

According to an Iran Press report, the interior minister noted that the Iranian public are tolerating hardship because of Islam, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, and the security of their country.

He added that in the first five months of this year, the number of protests in the country decreased by as much as 40% compared to the same period last year.

In further remarks Rahmani Fazli said: "The most pressing concern of the public is the state of the economy and economic issues, and if we want to be an independent country in the world, we must solve our economic problems."

Turning to Iran's strengths, he said: "In some areas where we have worked hard and we have shown resolve, we have been very successful like the defence industry and manufacture of military hardware, and in modern sciences and technologies. In fact a bone of contention between us and the West is that the West is not happy about Iran's rapid advancement in science and technology, and they often ask how and why Iran has advanced so much ?"

Rahmani Fazli cautioned by saying: "We have been successful in the field of science and technology, but economically our success has not been so impressive, and we are not as strong economically as we should be. We are still a long way off from our ideal economic position."

Rahmani Fazli added: "These advances and the resistance of the people against the enemies have led them to change their approach and we have a duty to assist the people, and serve them, and solve their problems, especially economic problems."
