Arbaeen grand march begins from from southern Iraq

As the commemoration day gets near Arbaeen, the grand march began from southern Iraq.

Iran Press/ Iran News:  On the 28th of Muharram al-Haram, the anniversary of the arrival of the Karbala Prisoners' Caravan to Sham, the grand ritual of the Arbaeen in Iraq began commemorating the third Shia Imam in the southernmost part of Iraq.

According to Iran Press, the Iranian Ambassador to Iraq said that 3 million Iranian pilgrims are expected to visit the neighboring country during Arbaeen pilgrimage. To this number must be added the other pilgrims from other countries and Iraqis themselves.

The Arbaeen Pilgrimage is the world's largest annual public gathering that is held every year in Karbala, Iraq at the end of the 40-day mourning period following Ashura, the religious ritual for the commemoration of the martyrdom of the grandson of Prophet Mohammad (blessings of God upon him and his progeny) and the third Shia Imam, Hossein ibn Ali in 680 AD.

Anticipating Arbaeen, or the fortieth day after the martyrdom, the pilgrims make their journey to Karbala on foot where Imam Hossein (PBUH) and his companions were martyred and beheaded by the army of tyrant Yazid in the battle of Karbala.
