Education's budget tripled over the past six years: President Rouhani
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has said in the past six years the education budget has tripled (300% increase) and the average wage of school teachers has quadrupled (400% increase) in the same time frame.
Iran Press/ Iran News: President Rouhani attended the Hazrat Khadijah (SA) Girls School in Tehran and ringed the bell of the school in a ceremony at the start of the 2019-20 academic year (corresponding to 1398-99 academic year in the Iranian calendar) on Monday morning.
President Rouhani addressed both students and teachers at girls' high school and posed a question for the students.
Commenting on the increase in education spending, President Rouhani said his administration had tripled the education budget (an increase of 300%) over the past six years from 15 thousand billion Rials to 46 thousand billion Rials, and teachers' pay had quadrupled over the same six years (400% increase in pay).
Speaking at the ceremony marking the official beginning of 1398-99 school year, President Hassan Rouhani said, “The government has employed all its efforts to improve education in the country”.
President Rouhani's question to students at the beginning of the academic year
Rouhani asks a question to the student that "Is the school space for you a pleasant, happy and energetic space and what should be done by government, family, teachers, and school officials that school space turns to a pleasant and more happy and also a safe place for student?"
Stating that it is very important for the government to find out what shortcomings need to be addressed, he said, “What we want is for the Education Ministry and education management bodies to be ready for work”.
“We need to help build and prepare schools and employ teachers and provide the ministry with its needed budget in time as much as we can,” he said.
The President also said, “The government has worked as much as it could to provide better schools, better salary for teachers and better textbooks and educational environments”.
Rouhani also went on to address students and said, “Your families should run the problems by the school managers because your future and education is very important for us”.
He continued, “Teachers are the most important pillar of our country and it is very important for the school atmosphere to be enjoyable for the students”.
In the new school year, 14.4 million students will begin their studies throughout the country.
