Iran Press/Iran news: The 16th edition of International Chess Open Tournament 'Avicenna CUP' is underway in Iranian western city of Hamedan, where the renowned physician, astronomer, and philosopher of the early 11th century, Avicenna, is buried.
The chess players from Iran and other countries all across the world including Armenia, Portugal, Georgia, the Republic of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Afghanistan, and Iraq have been competing since September 12, 19, 2019 in the Enghelab stadium located in Hamedan, reported Iran Press.
The head of Iran's delegation of chess players in Hamedan, Amir Erfan Hashemi who also chairs the 16th edition of the event told Iran Press correspondent that 444 chess players from Iran and other 7 countries of the world are taking part in the tournament, following the Swiss system.
