The health ministers of Iran and Indonesia have emphasized the development of bilateral cooperation in the field of healthcare and medical treatment.

Iran Press/Iran news: Iran's minister of health and medical education, Saeed Namaki on Saturday held a meeting with the Indonesian minister of health, Nila Moeloek.

While referring to the significance and importance of Iran's cooperation with Asian countries especially Indonesia, Namaki said that Tehran is ready to strengthen cooperation with Jakarta particularly in the fields of vaccination, health tourism, medical treatment, medical research, training, and education, as well as Halal products industry, reported Iran Press.

Iran's top healthcare official highlighted the fact that Indonesia is well experienced in natural disaster management and Tehran is ready to put them all in practice.

Namaki also emphasized that 97 percent of all medicines used in Iran are manufactured domestically.

The minister of health emphasized that with the help of 1200 knowledge-based companies, Iran will produce all the medicines that it needs over the next three years.

Indonesian Minister of Health, Nila Moeloek said during the meeting that Jakarta is also ready to cooperate with Iran in the field of drug and medicine manufacturing, stem cell research, as well as organ transplants and health tourism. Referring to the fact that her state visit to Iran is meant to cement ties and boost cooperation with Tehran, the Indonesian health minister also said that there has been cooperation in this regard in the field of health and the development of the infrastructures in the health issues have been considered as Indonesia's priorities in having mutual ties with Iran.

Nila Moeloek and her accompanying delegation arrived in Tehran on Saturday and were welcomed by Mohsen Asadi Lari, deputy minister of health and medical education of Iran and ambassador Octavino Alimudin.

During her 3-day working visit to Iran, the Indonesian minister of health is scheduled to meet a number of Iranian High officials including Masoumeh Ebtekar, Iranian Vice President for Women and Family Affairs and Sourena Sattari, Iranian Vice President for Science and Technology and she will visit a number of hi-tech Iranian healthcare companies.

The Indonesian minister's working visit to Iran will give further impetus to the implementation of a Memorandum Of Understanding (MoU) on healthcare cooperation between Iran and Indonesia.

The MoU was signed by the two health ministers on 25 October 2018 on the sidelines of the Global Conference on Primary Health Care Meeting in Astana, Kazakhstan.
