Iran Press/Iran news: On the sidelines of a cabinet meeting on Wednesday, government spokesman Ali Rabiei was asked about the possibility of the release of an Iranian supertanker in Gibraltar. He said: "Impounding the supertanker was the wrong action from the very beginning, and we demanded the oil tanker be released as soon as possible," Iran Press reported.
He added: "In the coming days, the Gibraltar court will convene and our understanding is that the court's decision will contribute to the security of the area, so we are looking forward to this positive action and mutually interpreting the conduct."
He pointedly added: "We anticipate that the Gibraltar court ruling will be in favor of regional security."
On July 4, British forces seized an Iranian-operated supertanker in the Strait of Gibraltar off Spain on the allegation that it was carrying Iranian oil to Syria in violation of the European Union’s unilateral sanctions on the Arab country.
Iran has denied that the vessel was heading for Syria, and Spain later said that London had ordered the confiscation at the request of the United States, which has been trying to hamper Iran’s international oil sales. 101/211/216
