  •  Iran’s representative elected as vice president of IAEA annual conference

Kazem Gharib Abadi, Iran’s representative to the Vienna-based international organizations, has been elected as the vice president of the International Atomic Energy Agency annual conference.

Iran PressEurope- Iran's Ambassador and permanent representative in international organisations in Vienna, Kazem Gharibabadi, was elected as vice-chairman of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) annual conference meeting on Monday, according to IRNA.

On the first day of the 62nd annual conference meeting of the IAEA, ambassador Gharibabadi was elected as vice-chairman from the Middle East and South Asia Group.

At the meeting more than 2000 participants from 169 countries are to consider and discuss general issues, approve a budget and future plans for the Agency which have been proposed by the board of governors.

Director General of the IAEA Yukiya Amano in his remarks confirmed again that Tehran had been committed to its obligations in Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action,JCPOA , since the last session of the UN General Assembly.

Vice-President and Head of Iran Atomic Energy Organisation Ali Akbar Salehi, who is in Vienna, said the JCPOA is one of the most important concerns of the world. He added that unilateral action of the US in exiting from the deal has negative effects on regional and international peace and security.

The US President Donald Trump declared exit from nuclear deal between Iran and 5+1 Group on May 8, 2018. The move was protested by all signatory countries, that is Britain, France, Germany, Russia and China, who announced their commitment to the deal. They also tried to find a mechanism for Iran to continue to benefit from the JCPOA.

The 62nd IAEA General Conference is set for 17-21 September 2018 at the Vienna International Centre (VIC) in Vienna, Austria, where high-ranking officials and representatives from IAEA member-states will consider a range of issues.
