IAEA chief will be in Tehran to meet Iranian officials

The IAEA chief Cornel Feruta will travel to Tehran on Sunday to talk to Iranian officials.

Iran Press/ Europe: The acting chief of the U.N. nuclear watchdog policing Iran’s nuclear deal with major powers, Cornel Feruta, will meet senior Iranian officials in Tehran on Sunday, a spokesman for the International Atomic Energy Agency said on Friday.

According to the spokesman, the visit is part of ongoing interactions between the IAEA and Iran, Reuters reported.

The trip comes before a quarterly meeting of the IAEA’s 35-nation Board of Governors next week.

On the other hand, in its 16th report on verification of Iran nuclear deal known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), IAEA proved Iran’s good-will for preserving multilateralism in international relations and as verifying its compliance.

The IAEA chief's trip to Iran is coincident with the implementation of the Iran’s third step to scale down its commitments to the JCPOA that will give a special boost to the activities of the country’s nuclear energy organization with its peaceful civilian nuclear research.

In the second step, Tehran began enriching uranium to purity rates beyond the JCPOA-limit of 3.76 percent and it has announced that it may increase the level of uranium enrichment to the pre-JCPOA era to 20% as the third step to reduce its JCPOA-related commitments.
