The Iranian energy minister said the signing of the contract to build a 1,400-megawatt thermal power plant in Sirik County, in southern Hormozgan Province will be finalized in a key meeting in Moscow with Russia's energy minister.

Iran PressEurope Iran's energy minister, Reza Ardakanian commenting on his trip to Moscow as the head of Iran-Russia economic commission accompanying Iranian foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said: "I am here to follow up and consult with Russian energy minister on decisions taken in 'joint commission of Iran-Russia economic cooperation summit' which was held in Tehran and Isfahan in May 2019 .

Ardakanian said: "One of the issues which will be discussed and finalized in the meeting with the Russian energy minister is the signing of the attached documents added to the contract of construction of 1,400 megawatt thermal power plant in Siric County, Hormozgan Province which is financed by a Russian Government Bank loan."

The Sirik power plant which comprises four units, each with a capacity to produce 350 MW, will be up and running in five years and will have an output capacity of approximately 600 megawatts, sufficient to supply electricity to 150,000 homes.

The 1,400-megawatt thermal power plant of Sirik will be constructed by cooperation between Iran's Thermal Power Plants Holding Company (TPPHC) and Russia’s Technopromexport, Tarztalab.

Iran's Energy minister said in the past week, the last process of joining Iran to Eurasia Economic Union has been finalized and all legal formalities have been done which is a great achievement.

The Eurasian Economic Union is an economic union of states located in central and northern Asia and Eastern Europe. The Treaty on the Eurasian Economic Union was signed on 29 May 2014 by the leaders of Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia, and came into force on 1 January 2015.
