Attack targets a religious gathering at a wedding hall to mark Prophet Muhammad's birthday anniversary.

Asia: Dozens of people have been killed in a powerful explosion at a meeting of top clerics in Afghanistan's capital, Kabul, according to officials.

An Afghan health ministry spokesperson, Vahid Majroh, said Tuesday's blast killed at least 40 people and wounded another 60.  

The attack targeted a religious scholars (Ulema) council gathering at a wedding hall to mark Prophet Muhammad's (blessings of God upon him and his progeny) birthday anniversary, local media reported.

Dozens of ambulances rushed to the site of the explosion, to take the injured to hospitals. 

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the blast. 103
