US President said his administration is not looking for regime change in Iran, as tensions between two countries are at their highest level in years.

Iran Press/America: "We are not looking for regime change. We are not looking for that at all," Donald Trump said, adding "We'll see what happens. But a lot of progress has been made."

Speaking to reporters Tuesday at a White House Cabinet meeting, Trump added "They can't have a nuclear weapon. They can't be testing ballistic missiles," CNN reported.

Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo claimed Iran is open to negotiations over its ballistic missile program.

However, Iran's Mission to the United Nations, rejected this claim and said missile program was not up for negotiation.

“Iran’s missiles ... are absolutely and under no condition negotiable with anyone or any country, period,” Alireza Miryousefi, spokesman for the Iranian mission at the United Nations, wrote on Twitter.

Trump's comments that his administration is not looking for regime change in Iran came as he, ever since quitting the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in May 2018, has used sanctions and political pressure to force Iran into the negotiating table for a new agreement, but to no avail. 101
