Iran Press/Iran news: "Azerbaijan has an important and special place in the foreign policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran. We have always used every opportunity to strengthen and develop our relations with the country," said Mahmoud Vaezi, in a telephone call with the Azerbaijan Republic Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev.
Expressing concern over the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia, the Chief of Presidential Staff stressed: "We are closely monitoring the recent developments and are ready to help resolve the differences between the two countries through dialogue and negotiation within the framework of international law."
Vaezi vehemently denied the allegations made in some media that Iran was sending arms to Armenia in, saying: "These rumors are completely baseless and are aimed at disrupting relations between Tehran and Baku."
In the conversation, Azerbaijan Republic Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev called Iran a good neighbor and friend of Azerbaijan and said: "The two countries have sincere relations with each other and we should not allow to ill-wishers ruin the relation ."
Clashes between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Armenia in the Nagorno-Karabakh region resumed on Sunday morning and have so far left a number of people dead.
The conflict between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Armenia over the Nagorno-Karabakh region began in 1988 and escalated into a military conflict in 1992, which resulted in the occupation of the Nagorno-Karabakh region of the Republic of Azerbaijan and seven neighboring cities by Armenian forces.
So far, many countries, including the Islamic Republic of Iran, have called for an end to the conflict and the start of talks between Baku and Yerevan.
Earlier, in a telephone conversation with his Armenian and Azerbaijani counterparts, the Iranian Foreign Minister called on the two sides to show restraint, a ceasefire, and an immediate end to hostilities, as well as the start of negotiations within the framework of international law.
Also, Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said that Iran is ready to provide good offices to enable talks between Baku and Yerevan.
