Tehran-Baku ties at highest level: Major General Bagheri

Chief of General Staff of Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Bagheri in a meeting with President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Baku said that Tehran-Baku ties are now at the highest level.

Iran Press/Asia: During the meeting with Ilham Aliyev on Wednesday, Chief of General Staff of Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Bagheri noted the deep-rooted historical and cultural ties between Tehran and Baku, adding: “The two countries’ ties are now at the highest level thanks to the will of their leaders to develop and consolidate long-term relations and cooperation.”

"Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan cooperate in various economic, political, military, security and defense spheres," Maj. Gen. Bagheri added according to Iran Press.

Chief of General Staff of Iranian Armed Forces highlighted the willingness and joint efforts of Tehran and Baku to establish peace, stability and security in the region, saying: “Both countries have a strong desire to develop military and technical ties, as well as cooperation in providing security on shared borders.”

Maj. Gen. Bagheri further voiced the Iran’s readiness to exchange experience with Azerbaijan in combating terrorism.

Major General Bagheri is in Baku atop a high-ranking military delegation at the official invitation of Azerbaijan’s Minister of Defense Zakir Hasanov.

Chief of the General Staff of Iran’s Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Bagheri at arrival in Heydar Aliyev International Airport in Baku said: "Republic of Azerbaijan is one of the important neighbors of Iran which has the common historical, language and religious ties with Islamic republic."

An agreement on military and defense cooperation between the two countries is expected to be signed at the end of the visit. 101/ 201
