The Representatives of The Association of SouthEast Asian Nations, ASEAN, have celebrated the 51st anniversary of the establishment of the organisation, at a special ceremony in Tehran.

Iran Press- Ambassadors of 10 South East Asian countries gathered in the  Iranian capital, Tehran,  to celebrate the  51st anniversary of ASEAN ( Association of SouthEast Asian Nations) establishment.  The Organization was founded in August 1967 by Indonesia ,Malaysia  ,Singapore,Thailand and the Philippines .

Since then more countries  like  Brunei ,Vietnam ,Laos , and  Cambodia have joined the organization.  ASEAN's main objectives  are   to promote economic growth ,social progress and cultural development in the South East Asia region,  through multi-lateral   cooperation.

Throughout  the past  5 decades ,ASEAN  has faced many challenges but has managed to adjust itself to today's complex regional and international landscape .

The ASEAN economy is the  6th largest  in the world .The organization also has the third-largest  labour force in the world, right behind China and  India,  but ahead of  United States and the European Union.

On Auq 2,2018 , the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation was signed   between Iran and ASEAN., The treaty was signed on the sidelines of the  51st summit of the foreign ministers of member states of ASEAN, the  Association of SouthEast Asian Nations. Foreign Minister Zarif represented Iran at the signing ceremony.
