Iran Press/Africa: The prime minister of Libya's national unity government has urged Saudi Arabia, Egypt and United Arab Emirates not to provide any support to the warlord Khalifa Haftar. General Haftar is the head of the so-called Libya's National Army.
Haftar's forces recently tried to invade and capture Tripoli, Libya's capital, but failed in their attempt.
The prime minister of Libya, Fayez al-Sarraj, has reacted to Saudi, Egyptian and UAE support for Haftar by calling on these countries to stop their material and financial support.
The Libyan prime minister al-Sarraj also said any ceasefire arrangement with Haftar's forces is null and void so long as Haftar's forces occupy areas around Tripoli, and remain in the vicinity of Libya's capital.
The US newspaper Wall Street Journal recently reported that Khalifa Haftar decided to attack Tripoli only a few days after visiting Riyadh in Saudi Arabia. From the start of Haftar's military assault on Tripoli at least 376 residents of the city have been killed, with a further 1650 people injured.
Libya has been grappling with violence and instability eversince United States and NATO decided to militarily intervene in the country and oust the long-time dictator and strongman, Muammar Gadhafi. The United Nations and the majority of the international community recognizes the government of prime minister, Fayez al-Sarraj, and a parliament in Tripoli, but a rival government and rival parliament based in the east of the country, and supported by the warlord General Khalifa Haftar also exists. This rival renegade government is not recognized internationally but Saudi Arabia and UAE support it.
