Iran Press/America: The UN Security Council expressed concern on Friday about military activity near Libya’s capital Tripoli, warning that it threatens the country’s stability.
“They (the council) called on LNA forces to halt all military movements,” said German UN Ambassador Christoph Heusgen, president of the council for April, reading a statement agreed by the body after it was briefed behind closed doors on the latest developments, Reuters reported.
“They also called on all forces to de-escalate and halt military activity. There can be no military solution to the conflict,” he said.
Haftar issued the order after the Libyan National Army (LNA) took control of the cities of Surman and Garyan that previously were under the authority of the UN-supported interim Government of National Accord. Haftar reportedly called on LNA forces to ensure the safety of foreigners in Tripoli and not to shoot at the civilian population.
Libya has been embroiled in a political crisis since NATO-led forces murdered the country's former strongman and long-time dictator, Muammar Gaddafi. 101/211/201
