Zarif heading to Far East to continue regional, intl consultations

Iranian Foreign Minister begins his visit to China, Japan, and Malaysia on Sunday in the light of active and balanced diplomacy of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Iran Press/Iran news- Reviewing bilateral relations and the most important regional and international issues are among the topics of Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif's consultations with Chinese, Japanese and Malaysian officials.

In the strategic goals of this trip, in addition to the political aspect, the issue of bilateral trade and economic exchanges is also important in light of the expansion of Iran's economic diplomacy, in particular, China, Japan, and Malaysia are Iran's important oil and gas trading partners.

Chinese companies need and continue to buy Iranian oil in any situation," said Andrew Yu, director of the International China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation (CPCIF) noted.

Resistance to US unilateral sanctions is of strategic importance because the anti-Washington consensus means defending global interests and beyond Iran and the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) issues.

In his recent remarks, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, emphasizing the development of relations with Iran in the political, economic, counter-terrorism and other fields of interest, described the JCPOA as an important achievement of diplomacy and a symbol of multilateralism and while rejecting any unilateralism underscored China's determination to work with Iran and the international community to uphold this important international achievement.

Now America's economic monopoly is over in the world, and Washington is not capable of changing that reality.

Li Kui Wen, director of statistical analysis department at the Chinese Customs, went on to say that Beijing is opposed to the economic unilateralism of the US or any other country, and the US' domestic law does not matter for China.

It is worth to remind that in the foreign policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, multilateralism is one of the strategic principles in Iran's diplomatic relations. Within this framework, Iran has jointed to the Treaty of Amity of the East Asian countries (ASEAN).

Mohammad Mehdi Maleki, an expert on Asia affairs, says Iran's accession to the treaty implies a kind of acceptance of engagement with Iran as an important regional and international influential power.

Multilateral diplomacy has shown that not all paths necessarily end in Washington. Accordingly, the policy of looking East is an important step towards balancing political and economic relations, for two main reasons.

The first is to counter the socio-economic threats posed by western unilateralism and the second reason is the increasing share of East Asia in international developments.

In this regard, visiting Japan and Malaysia as two other destinations for Zarif Asian tour is significant.

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei in a meeting with visiting Japanese Prime Minister Abe Shinzo in highlighted that Japan is an important country in Asia and if it wants to expand relations with Iran, must show its determination, as some important countries have shown.

Malaysia is also a member of the ASEAN regional organization. The most important goal of the organization is the efforts of member states to establish lasting peace, solidarity and unity and popular cooperation.

Far East Asia has become one of the most important political centers in recent years as economic development progresses. Therefore, the visit of the head of the Iranian diplomatic apparatus to China, Japan and Malaysia, which is followed by Zarif's negotiations on his European trip, is important at the international level given the current conditions in the region. These consultations will certainly help bring the views closer to the dangerous consequences of US unilateralism and are in the interest of regional and international peace and security.
