Isfahan (IP) - The Deputy Police Chief of Isfahan, central Iran, reported the dismantling of a five-member gang smuggling weapons to Iran.

Iran PressIran news: Brigadier-General Mohammad-Reza Hashmifar told the media that following the recent unrest to make the country insecure, the intelligence officers of the police department of Isfahan identified the members of a weapon smuggling gang.

Unrest and brawls were instigated under the pretext of Mahsa Amini, 22, who died due to a sudden heart attack in a police center in Tehran on Tuesday, September 13, after being taken there for violation of dress codes along with some other women.

General Hashemifar said that the gang members were arrested at their shelter and that no one could escape. 

As a result of the operation, 37 rifles were seized, including ten war guns and 27 hunting guns, along with 450 live bullets and 200 hunting cartridges.

The rioters destroyed public property, even ambulances, and set fire to houses, mosques, and people in the streets. They carried out armed attacks in some cities, including Isfahan.

On Monday also, during an operation in the western part of Iran, a terrorist team was dismantled, and the security forces seized a cargo containing various weapons.

In an interview with BBC, the US' former National Security Advisor John Bolton confessed that weapons from Iraq's Kurdistan had been sent to the rebels in Iran.
