Nasser Kanaani made the comment on Sunday following the US side's surprising reaction to Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian's comments about prisoner exchange between Tehran and Washington.
Kanaani said in March 2022, an agreement in writing was signed between Iran and US to swap prisoners through a mediator.

He added that the US representative also signed the agreement but the US government has so far declined to put it into effect under various pretexts.
The Iranian diplomat added that in recent weeks, the two sides kept exchanging messages to update the agreement.
Kanaani stressed the Islamic Republic of Iran believes that swapping prisoners is a purely humanitarian issue that should not be turned into a subject of political games.
