Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman, Seyyed Abbas Mousavi

Tehran (IP) - Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman, Seyyed Abbas Mousavi said on Friday that US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's expression of readiness to help Iran in the fight against the coronavirus is nothing more than propaganda, it is also hypocritical and ridiculous and part of a political game which Washington plays.

Iran PressIran news: He said that the claim to assist Iran in fighting against the Coronavirus by a country that has applied tremendous economic pressure and sanctions and even blocked Iran's attempts to buy medicine and medical supplies is a ridiculous claim and a form of psychological warfare.

Mousavi also went on to say that Iran is in close contact with many countries in order to satisfy the country’s pharmaceutical and healthcare needs and to combat the coronavirus, and so far a considerable part of the country’s critical needs, including 100,000 (COVID-19) diagnostic kits, surgery masks, medical ventilators, etc. have been supplied by 'friendly countries', Iran Press reported.

The Foreign Ministry Spokesman emphasizes that the fight against the Coronavirus, which has now become a global epidemic and has swept many countries, requires a global will and broad international cooperation, not theatrical moves that are made for political purposes, and these only increase the suffering and the pain of patients.

The US secretary of state said in a ridiculous statement on Friday that the US had offered Iran assistance in the fight against Coronavirus.

The outbreak of coronavirus - known as COVID-19 - in Iran was first detected on 19 February, when health authorities in Qom confirmed the death of two elderly people as a result of the first incidence of the disease in Iran.

The Coronavirus was diagnosed for the first time in Wuhan city, in China in the late 2019, and currently, apart from the country's 30 provinces, the virus has spread to at least 50 countries including US, Britain, Australia, Thailand, South Korea, Japan, Canada, France, Iran, Saudi Arabia and United Emirate.

According to the latest reports, at least 83 thousand people have been affected by the Coronavirus in the world, of which about 36 thousand have been recovered and about 2800 others have died.
