Iran Press/America: Mohammad Javad Zarif, who is in New York to attend the United Nations Economic and Social Council meeting, said in an interview with the Bloomberg news network on Wednesday that Iran did not leave the negotiating table with the US, but the Americans left and they know how to get back.
Iran's foreign minister rejected the idea that Tehran is waiting for next year’s US election to put a Democratic president in office who might be open to reentering the nuclear deal.
“No country in their right mind would make their foreign policy based on results they don’t have any control over,” he said.
"Iran never pursues NUKS”
Addressing US allegations that Iran has never given up its goal of building nuclear weapons, Zarif said Iran has the complete knowhow to pursue them “very rapidly” but “we’re not going to” because the Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei made a “fatwa” that they are forbidden, Zarif told Bloomberg Editor in Chief John Micklethwait.
"Illegal seizure of Iranian oil tanker is piracy"
Zarif commented on the illegal seizure of Iranian oil tanker in the Gibraltar International Waterway, saying that Britain has no right to seize the ship carrying Iranian oil and that it is piracy.
The British navy seized the Iranian supertanker on July 4 at the request of the United States.
London claims that the tanker had been carrying Iranian oil to Syria, which is under European Union’s sanctions but Iran says the tanker was not headed to Syria, and Iran is not an EU member and also not subject to any European oil embargo.
Zarif, who has arrived in New York on Sunday has already been interviewing the BBC, NBC, and CNN.
Zarif also made a speech to the United Nations Economic and Social Council on Wednesday and is scheduled to meet with Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations.
Mohammad Javad Zarif will leave New York to Caracas, the capital of Venezuela, to attend a meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement.
Zarif will go to Havana at the final stage of the trip to meet the Cuban officials and discuss issues of mutual interest.
