The United Nations has welcomed the normalization of relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Saudi Arabia.

Iran PressAmerica: "Obviously, we welcome any steps by nations to normalize relations with each other.  That’s always a positive step forward," UN spokesman Farhan Haq said on Wednesday in a press briefing in response to the question, What does the UN have to say about the exchange of ambassadors of Saudi Arabia and Iran, which happened yesterday (Tuesday)?

After years of breaking diplomatic relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia, Abdullah Al-Enzi, the ambassador of Saudi Arabia, arrived in Tehran.

Also on Tuesday,  Alireza Enayati, the ambassador of Iran to Saudi Arabia, arrived in Riyadh and was welcomed by the officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia in Riyadh.

Both countries upgraded their diplomatic missions to the ambassadorial level.

The two diplomats arrived in the capitals following a landmark deal with the Arab country to resume diplomatic relations with Iran.
