Uganda (IP) – The Cultural Attaché office of the Islamic Republic of Iran's Embassy in Uganda hosted an event dedicated to Iranology.

Iran PressAfrica: The event was held at Muteesa I Royal University in Kampala, attended by Abdollah Abbasi, the Cultural Attaché of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Majid Saffar, Iran's Ambassador to Uganda, the academia, and university students, and others.

Speaking to Iran Press, Professor Vincent Kakembo, the Vice Chancellor of Muteesa I Royal University said that achievements of Iran in the areas of science and technology would provide the potential for the country to set pace for other countries in the region.

“It's been a great honor to host Iranology seminar at Muteesa I Royal University, which is the official Kingdom University for the King of Buganda,” he said.

“The seminar has been very informative. It is not a recent philosophy, but one of the old Oriental studies that focuses on cultural interactions and exchanges we can have with the Iranian people. So as a kingdom university which focuses on culture, the seminar has been a great philosophy that really transcends culture,” he added.

The Vice Chancellor said that resilience and reinforcement of innovative and technological institutions in Iran has greatly contributed to the rapid development of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

“As we all know, Iran has very much developed in the areas of science and technology industry. This tells us that there is nothing which Iran is incapable of producing. They do produce everything that they need and that the country would like to associate ourselves with,” he said.

“Another benefit of this seminar on Iran this morning is potential partnerships which we can develop with premier universities. For example, the University of Tehran is very well advanced in in engineering, in information technology, in agriculture and many other universities which we can twin with. If we can get into partnerships in areas like agriculture and engineering to mention but a few, “ he added.

He noted that the visit of the president of Iran to Uganda last month was a drive to concretize these partnerships.

“When the ambassador of Iran to Uganda was mentioning at my office, he pointed out that they import many agricultural products, especially fruits very expensively from elsewhere. But he feels that if there can be partnerships between farmers in Uganda and those in Iran, and if farmers in Iran can come and produce together with the farmers of Uganda here on the ground, then that is going to make agricultural products very cost effective, and that's what we are looking forward to. These are the sort of countries that we should be looking at working with,” he told Iran Press.

The Cultural Attache of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in China, and a group of professors, researchers, Chinese and Iranian thinkers, and Beijing University students schooling in the African university also attended the seminar.

Iran's Ambassador to China, Mohammad Keshavarzzadeh, described Iran-China relations as excellent and said: "The interactions between the two countries have strengthened the exchanges between their people, and the two nations have sought to deepen their relations by getting to know each other."

He also tweeted: "In the seventh Iranology at Beijing University, more than 30 speakers from two countries studied Iranian studies in China."

He added: "Persian language and literature and Iranian studies in Chinese universities have met with general success, and the development of Chinese studies in Iran can also strengthen the ties between the two ancient nations."

The purpose of holding this seminar is to exchange faculty members in Iranology, try to promote the activities of Chinese researchers about Iran, and create more opportunities in Iranian studies for Chinese researchers and Iranologists.

At the opening of the seminar, the Vice-Chancellor of Beijing University, Wang Bo, said: "The Silk Road has connected the people of China and Iran for more than 2,000 years. This year coincides with the 50th anniversary of establishing official relations between China and Iran, and the relations between the two countries have entered a new phase."
