Iran Press/Asia: In Kunduz, Taliban militants attacked security checkpoints in Dasht-i-Archi district, killing eight government forces, including local police officers and army soldiers, according to Afghan Television reports. Four others were wounded in the assault.
Provincial police confirmed the death of two local police officers and wounding of another in the attack.
Separately, militants attacked a security checkpoint in Alam Kheil area of Balkh province, killing eight forces, according to Ahmad Fawad Saleh, chief of Balkh’s highway police.
In Takhar province, seven members of Afghan security forces were killed by militants in Darqad district, according to Jawad Hijri, a spokesman for the provincial governor.
Eleven militants were killed while five others were wounded in the counterattack, he said.
Tensions in the country continue to escalate despite talks between the Taliban and American officials, relaunched after a 3-month break.
The previous year-long series of negotiations were seemingly not successful in reducing tensions and violence.
On the other hand, 41 Taliban militants were killed in a joint military operation in Ghazni province on Tuesday.
Emal Momand acting spokesman for Thunder203 army corps told BNA, the Taliban were killed in a joint clearing operation of security forces with the support of the Afghan Air Force on the outskirts of Ghazni city.
In the event, ten Taliban militants were injured and seven others were detained.
Likewise, a group of Thunder 203 army corps discovered and confiscated 17 mines from Khost, Paktika, Logar, Maidan-Wardak and Ghazni provinces.
