Tehran (IP) - The Iranian foreign ministry summoned the UK ambassador to Tehran on Wednesday to express strong protest over his remarks about Iran's internal affairs.

Iran PressIran news: Simon Shercliff, the British ambassador to Tehran, posted these remarks on a social network coinciding with National Journalists Day in Iran.

The Director General of the Western Europe Desk at the Iranian foreign ministry called for a meeting with Shercliff late on Wednesday, during which a statement from the Iranian foreign ministry stated that a strong protest was lodged against his remarks, which were made outside diplomatic etiquette.

The Director General emphasized that such uncalculated and irresponsible actions are clear examples of interference in internal affairs and are unacceptable.

The Iranian diplomat also highlighted the unconstructive actions of certain London-based media outlets against Iran under the pretext of freedom of speech, stating that the UK, given its questionable behavior towards the Iranian people, is not in a position to comment on the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Furthermore, he asserted that as a strong country, Iran will not tolerate any disregard for its sovereignty due to such uncalculated actions. In response, the UK diplomat reiterated his country's commitment to maintaining respectful relations with Iran.
